If you have a website then there is a chance that your site was damaged by the Google Panda update. Since the initial release there have been a couple of updated versions, one of which was focused on repairing some of the damage that was caused to good websites who were marked down in the rankings as Panda decided the sites were of poor quality or spamming. Our SEO Buxton service has been helping ecommerce websites improve throughout the whole process.
The aim of Panda was to provide users with quick results and reduce the amount of time that people had to spend visiting multiple sites before finding the information they required. If you are wondering how you can make your website more Panda friendly then you can try out the SEO Buxton tips bellow or simply speak to the experts in person and ask for some assistance on the matter.

Tips on Taking Care of Google Panda

Our tips will help you to fill the main criteria that are set by Google Panda and the search engines algorithms to help maintain a good rank on the search engines, or repair some of the hurt caused by the update several months ago. As Google Panda is not running constantly you may need to be a little patient after making any alterations, however, in time you should see some positive improvement in the position your website places in the SERPS.

1.	Aim to satisfy the reader first and the search engines second. This is vital as unsatisfied readers will lead to short amount of times spent on your site and a large bounce rate. If the search engines see that people are not spending time on your site and are visiting others further down in the list it will not look good. SEO in Buxton recognises that the only way to keep readers happy is to write just for them. Do not spam them with keywords that have hardly any reason being on the page. Original, informative content is paramount. We have said it before but many businesses are reluctant to recreate content until it is explained to them that it could be the one thing holding their website back.

2.	Make sure your website is fast and responsive. A slow site will frustrate people and lead to them moving on to the next in the search engine result pages. Internet users do not want to wait around. Information, pictures and the site as a whole needs to be presented in seconds, not minutes. If you do not know how to make your site faster contact your ecommerce website design UK for their assistance.
3.	Research your keywords and Keep tracking them.
At SEO Buxton we offer keyword research that can make sure that the right people find your site. You need to try and direct your site directly towards people who will really find your website useful. Do not add keywords which are not really relevant, this will lead to more people fleeing from your site faster than you can say ‘bounce’.

For further help and advice why not contact our SEO Buxton team. Telephone 0843 212 0080 searchoptimisation.uk.com and speak to the experts directly,

Are You Keeping Up with the Changes in Your SEO?

As a website owner it is vital that you keep up with the changes in SEO in order to stop your website from disappearing in the search engine results pages. It is possible to pass on most of your optimising to outsource businesses such as SEO Buxton although it is worth keeping a close eye on what you are being asked by your SEO experts. If you ignore emails or do not follow advice you could be damaging all of their efforts, and as a direct result wasted your own money in the process.
One of the most recent updates for Google Panda has been released in order to make sure that websites are not being punished in the SERPs without good cause. Many of the sites were damaged unjustly while spamming sites seemed to go unnoticed and still remained high up in the results. If your website is not doing well in search then the reason could be that you are not listening to the advice given by your SEO experts. Here is a checklist of some of the suggestions that you really need to listen to and follow as soon as possible.
1.	Rework the content on your website. This may seem like a huge job but if the content isn’t up to scratch the visitors to your site will not want to spend time reading it or invest in your business. Unhappy Internet users will leave your pages quickly and this will not look good to the search engines or Google Panda. You could hire copywriters if you do not have the expertise or the time needed to write new, informative and interesting web copy.
2.	SEO in Buxton recognises that a slow site results in a poor ranking. You must have the site up to speed not only in original content but also how quickly the site loads up. If you have an out of date website it could be worth speaking to a new ecommerce website designer in the UK to recreate a brand new site that works as good as it looks.
3.	Use your keywords sparingly and in the right context. This has to do with both number one and two in the checklist too. Avoid asking copywriters to create content that is over stuffed with your keywords. Repeating the same phrases over and over makes for uncomfortable reading and often turns visitors off. The website designers will need you to have researched the correct keywords for them to incorporate into the site too. If the company offers keyword research then take it. Getting it right means that the correct audience is finding your site which reduces the amount of people who quickly click on your site and then leave when they discover you are not really offering what they want.
If your search engine optimisation company has made these suggestions to you then it is important you take action. Google Panda, and search engines as a whole will not rank your site highly if visitors are not staying on your pages. Get proactive and take the advice from the experts to reap the rewards of your investment in SEO.

Article submission sites are often the best way to distribute content that you may or may not have already used on your site – there are a lot of places you can submit your content and get valuable links and commentary back on your content.
Pair this up with your integrated blog and copywriter and you’ll frequently find that your article submissions rocket the backlinks and SEO building projects for your site by a factor of magnitude.

Article writing basics

If you’re really not able to use a copywriter, you should still try to talk to experts about submitting your content to article submission sites – places like EzineArticles are often very strict about what content they’ll accept and in what format – as do Articles Base and other sites. It’s often very difficult to understand the format, even after reading the guidelines – all guidelines have rules banning as many things as possible so are frequently long and unwieldy, just to make sure the site’s content is protected and of value.
Where possible, your content can follow one of several structures:

Question, problem, solution – Ask a question that creates a broader problem, then provide the solution within the content. This is often a great way to handle practical things, such as DIY, design, or coding. It’s also a great way to write about things like health and products designed around health.

Press releases – your press release can be used as content, though not on certain article sites (such as EzineArticles- they have a separate place to post Press releases and other promotional articles). What you can do with your press pack is to create an article talking about how innovative your company is and then link back to your latest press release. Make sure your link is ‘evergreen’ – that is, it’s always linked back to your freshest press release. Setting up, or having your expert set up a redirect is for the best.

Instruction articles – much like the ‘question, problem, solution’, you can write how to, 10 reasons why, ten mini solutions and a variety of other formats. Each will allow you to create content that can deliver what you need.

Finally, you can write an article highlighting the best of your knowledge and sharing it with a wide readership.

All content that you post on article submission sites is designed to drive traffic back to your site, so the content should highlight the best of what you are – and what your site is. Good and great content, provided by SEO services will create a relationship with your readers, allowing you to presell or share information with them that will let them to trust you. This trust and relationship is hard to build up in other ways, but tied in with other SEO services, article submissions are one of the most powerful services you can use – there is no stronger connection to clients than usable information.
Once you’ve used content on article submission sites, you’ll find that it’s duplicated in other places – this is exactly what you want to happen, as your content will be exposed to other streams of traffic, and reach people you may not have otherwise reached. And while search engines don’t index duplicate traffic, people may remember your article, and search for the information in it – finding your site, where it appeared first.

Choosing a service

You need to know what to look for in a good SEO service – they should provide free information about articles, writing content and SEO first and foremost – even if you are later hiring them and paying them for their services. They should have adept writers and copywriters as staff where possible – so you know you can trust them to create and maintain your content.
They should use tactics called ‘white hat’ tactics – this includes using legitimate sites to submit to. You should be able to see the results of these services- that is, you should be able to go to the sites that have had your articles submitted and can read them. And most importantly, they should respond to any questions, requests or ideas you have – content is a personal thing, and reputable services will write bespoke content especially for you.
Once your content is written, and submitted, you should ensure that the site that’s being linked remains as relevant as possible – most SEO services will help you with this too. It’s important to keep your sites up once you’ve used article submission sites, because dead links won’t be removed from certain article directories, and may not be editable after submission.

Using a service

Understanding the basics of article writing will help you spot the best ways to design a project and get what you need. You may be planning a launch, or want to create a stream of content to a specific area of your site – or, even want to create a generalised stream of evergreen traffic, or traffic that won’t expire.
Once you know what you need, you can hire article writers to create your content, and then submit to various submission sites. Each site will have various needs, and rules about your links and your resource box – having several to swap around will allow you to freshen your article – search engines are becoming more strict about duplicate content, so it’s often important to use any content you’ve had created on your own site first – passing it to free submission and content sites will allow you to build up limited links and get exposure to readers. This traffic is valuable to any website- most websites find that the traffic generated from free article sites can sometimes outdo their PPC or other SEO projects in the beginning. That traffic is frequently highly converting traffic and will usually bookmark your site and revisit at a later date.
You can usually use services and pick up or drop them as needed – but hiring a long term article creation and submission team will allow you to create a solid stream of traffic that will create leads, relationships and customers for years to come.

It used to be that as long as search engines found a link for your site, it would rank you, but as people started to abuse it, search engines started to clamp down. Fast forward a few years, and it’s very difficult to get rank at all without using some legitimate areas.
Article submissions, blogs and commenting, and directory services are some of the best ways to work with search engines and still retain the best ranking methods.

Why link farms were abused

Link farms were all about collecting as many links as possible and eventually these links, without context would get spammed – much like blog comments now get spammed. This spam would either overwhelm the sites, or the legitimate listings on the sites, creating a no win situation for smaller sites that were using link farms to share their links with legitimate sources were now swamped out of view.
Link farms were easy to abuse because the concept of ‘spam’ had only extended at that point to emails – which meant that when it started overwhelming the link farms, no one knew what to do. Guest books were also overwhelmed around this point. The net result of this was search engines started to look at links differently. The started to want and need context – which meant that link farms started to create and use categories. Soon, this too was overwhelmed with problems with spam.

Directory services – the differences

Directory services are strictly monitored services that list sites – they aren’t link farms at all because they collect specific links. There are also niche directories that are focussed on very specific areas of a certain niche – some are free, but most are now paid. Paid listing services are designed to ensure that you’re getting listings in a place that’s well visited, and has a solid level of traffic. Paid listing sites are also guaranteed spam free – as are lots of the best free sites. There are still directory services that are spam filled, but most of the time, these are easy to spot.
Directory services are almost like classified ads sometimes – they are designed to give people an idea of what your site is about before they visit – listed alongside other sites that are similar. As this is the case, you need to ensure your site and your descriptions are ready for the spotlight and have something new to offer.
In all cases, using a professional service to submit to directories will give you a leg up on many of your competitors – your SEO team will talk you through how to make your site shine and your submissions be approved.

Getting ready for submission

In many cases, your SEO services team will need to work with you to get your site ready for submissions – if they’ve worked with paid directory services in the past, they’ll know what the site acceptance criteria are – you may need to add more content, or clean up your content in some way before submitting. In most cases your site, if it’s already established will need little work.
Once they’ve done that, they’ll need to examine your site, choose keywords for your anchor texts and write up descriptions of your site. These will form the basis of your submissions to the directories, so you should make sure you’re entirely satisfied with them before releasing them and starting the submissions process.

Anchor text

SEO services will support you in finding the best link and anchor text – they should accurately reflect your site and its contents – and you should have several sets of anchor texts to rotate through. SEO services working with directory submissions will help you to understand this, or provide reports on what they’re doing. Anchor text should always contain at least one of your keywords if possible – and never your URL. If you’re submitting a blog, look at your categories – frequently they’ll be perfect for your needs – as a bonus, you can sometimes link direct to those categories – making the directory submissions hyper focussed.

Varying your descriptions

Directory services are designed around taking your link, your anchor text and a description. Your directory services should rotate and reuse one of several descriptions – this variety will stop your listing looking generic and spammy, and will allow you to rotate out your descriptions – giving them more chance to appear in search engines, and creating a fertile ground for the directory services to list you in.
Good SEO services will provide this as standard – and will give you the option of choosing the best descriptions they’ve created – you should have one description per four or five submissions as a best case scenario.
One way to vary descriptions is to think of all the different things you say when telling people about your site – what do you talk about – what are your passions, and are they included in the site? Or take some of your best articles, and ask your SEO team to summarise what they say – that way you’ll be basing your submissions on the very best of your content.

And then what?

SEO services will allow you to choose the amount of submissions you’ll like – their fees will then include the submission fees for paid sites. Over the next sets of days, you’ll find that most SEO sites will submit your site to these services separated out – so they don’t hit the sites all at once. Most paid sites have a review period, that may be outside the period of submissions agreed by your SEO team – don’t worry about this, they’re reviewing your site and will include you once they’ve made sure your site meets their criteria.
Listings will last forever or for several years on paid services – and can be removed and amended in most cases – free listing sites may have different rules, but in most cases you can log in and change your descriptions and links – you’ll need to ensure that you’ve been given the information from your SEO service.

Using an expert to integrate your blog and create some great content for you is one of the best investments you can make. Blog integration and copywriting will give you a smoothly designed, seamless integration between your blog, and copywriting will give you great content that people are talking about for months – the two will give you a slick, interesting base to build traffic on, and create links to your site.

Blog integration basics

Blogs are one of the best pieces of traffic generation you’ll ever use on your site – they let you post content easily, and have a regular framework that people can use. Blogging is as easy as writing, and uploading your content, and unlike static pages, blogs are gold dust for Google and other search engines – they love regularly updated content and blogs are often laid out in such a way that makes SEO easier. Integrating blogs is one of the best ways to inject beautiful content in an easy to use framework onto an otherwise static site, creating areas for discussion, interaction and relationship building. And ultimately, building relationships with your readers and potential clients will generate more leads than any advertising program you could ever undertake.

Blog integration – Blogger and WordPress.com

It’s usually slightly more difficult to integrate Blogger and WordPress.com , simply because you, as the end user have control over the content, but not the underlying structure that it’s built on – meaning that you may not be able to change your theme to one you’ve designed – or you’ll have to pay a premium to do so. Blogger is less restrictive, but you’re still relying on another person’s hosting service. In all cases, if you’re on separately hosted blogs, you should move to your own hosting as soon as possible – both Blogger and WordPress.com do allow you to export to your content onto self-hosted units. An SEO expert can move you from WordPress to Blogger easily.

Blog integration – self hosting

You should always self-host your own blog – integrating it will be as easy as ‘skinning’ the blog to look identical to your site, or to have visual ties that allow you to indicated and link your site together – it can be subtle, or blatant, but the important part is that there’s a visual tie to your sites – asking a web designer or SEO expert to create your site theme will let you concentrate on creating great content. It’s important to get an expert to do this, so it’s done properly – there are dozens of considerations to look at – where your blog’s URL should be (and whether it should be on a subdomain, or on its own site), what keywords and categories you want to use, how often it’s updated, how you link to it from your site. These and other questions are best left to professionals, allowing you to concentrate on the passion, and interest you have in your business – let that speak for you, and your clients will thank you for it.
Once your self-hosted, integrated blog is all set up, you should consider filling it with meaningful content – talk about the things that you’re passionate about or if you’re not a skilled writer, copywriters can convert your passions to articles – just talk to them about it!

Copywriting basics

Copywriting is the art of producing copy – articles, blog posts, web copy, technical papers, eBooks, and print media – to use in a business. Copywriters are highly skilled writers, with talents that the average writer doesn’t have – they can use clean, consistent language, and create content that speaks for your company, in the tone your company uses. Copywriting is a job for professionals – as poor copy reflects badly on companies more than poorly designed sites. Using the wrong words will create a problem for your company that is very difficult to undo. Copywriters are often adept at psychological techniques which make their writing more compelling or can create content that other people find unputdownable. This skill lets them write for you without effort, and further allows them to create a sales profile for your company that you may not otherwise attain. Copywriters are a valuable investment for your company, so be sure you know what you want, or find a copywriter or SEO writer that can work with your style.

Advanced copywriting concepts

One of the most important jobs your copywriter will do is sell your products for you. This ‘sale’ language is of tantamount importance to be correct and accurate – otherwise you could be offering some pledge or information that you just can’t meet. Copywriters often need clear briefs to create content that you’ll use – so you may need to consider what you want them to talk about – or it can be as simple as suggesting information or keywords that you want to target in your posts.
Copywriters frequently have to work with several dozen clients, so it’s important to give them as much lead time as you can – the best copywriters are also frequently in demand, and will create information for you on a timetable – which you can then use on your blog.

Sales letters

One of the key copywriting tasks that come up with writing projects are sales letters – these long form information letters give people an idea about what your product is so worth buying, and will also sell your product for you. This specific form of copywriting is often highly prised, and may cost more than average copywriting, and takes a while to write. Reviews and other projects may also lock in with sales letters, so it’s important to take your plan or needs to your copywriter as soon as possible – and if possible use the same writer (sometimes with the exception of sales letters depending on what your company has hired writers to do in the past, and time constraints), or team as often as you can, to ensure that your message and language is consistent. Doing so will allow you to ensure that you’re giving your customer a strong, readable message at all times, and information they can act on.

SEO link building is one of the most important things you can undertake for your website – without it, you may find that your website is unknown and only visited by direct reference to the site on business cards or when you leave comments on blogs.
Link building of any kind can be a time and cost intensive project, which is why it’s best to get an expert to do it if at all possible – often, they’ll know of shortcuts or more efficient ways to get into the most ‘valuable’ (whether the value is in the high page rank of the other page, or the traffic passing through) places to support your needs.

The basics of SEO link building

SEO link building is based on passing off relative rank of one page to another – almost like voting. The higher the page rank, the more the ‘vote’ is worth – or the more votes that are cast.
Pages with relative page rank will convey similar ‘vote’ levels, but it’s important to remember that search engines constantly change their weighting system, and tries to make it evolve to meet the needs of their readers, so what works today may not work tomorrow.
To get any level of benefit out of back linking, your pages should be absolutely solid in their own SEO – make sure your metatags, descriptions and other issues that create on page conditions are entirely met. There’s no point in linking to a poorly optimised page – so before starting on any link building stratagem, or asking a team to embark on one, you should ensure your site is ready. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get much more value per effort out of your site, and it will allow you to serve your visitors fully.
The most important element of SEO link building is the anchor or link text that you use. This frequently determines how search engine traffic sees you, and what keywords, and anchor text they use on their site.

Not all traffic is alike

Gaining traffic from links, whether it’s PPC, or SEO, personal recommendations and write-ups on trusted sites, or a link from a friend’s blog or site rely on one thing – that people will click through to your site. This represents a measure of trust – more than we’d normally show in real life.
SEO link building is, in many ways, like word of mouth – it relies on your site being recommended by other sites, either of the same or lower rank (lots of), or a less of a higher page rank. Also, like word of mouth, it relies on the people involved being trusted by their visitors – and those people recommending you to them. In many cases, this is the absolute best traffic – they’re already ‘partially’ sold to whatever you’re offering, on the strength of the link from another site – making them more willing to buy into what you’re offering. Another way to get ‘word of mouth’ is to become listed in a search engine.
There’s something almost peculiar about search engines – people believe them almost like recommendations, but don’t become ‘presold’ to anything.

Methods and how to get the most of them

Broadly, there are three methods to get links to your site – providing information that others want to link to, commenting directly on their site, and exchanging links.
Each method is difficult to simply jump into, and will provide different benefits. All three can be time consuming, and stand alone or work well together, depending on what you need to do and how fast you’d like to see results. Most people find that results start to appear fairly quickly – but moving up rankings or seeing increases in traffic frequently come in unevenly spaced increments. There are no quick traffic fixes to get you better SEO or traffic, and it’s important to trust the group, person, or guide you’re working with.

Information people want to link to

It’s relatively easy to find information that people want to link to – you’ll find any knowledge that is unique to you – whether it’s a perspective, new method or information about something that you consider to be ground breaking is probably very valuable to other people. That’s information that you may find people want to look at and share.

Information with on page SEO will perform better when people link to them – Google and other search engines value anchor text and on page SEO that match. It’s often very difficult to do without lessons or support.

People will link to your site in random ways unless there’s guidance on site. Consider having an information box that tells people how and why to link.

Commenting directly on sites

Commenting on other peoples articles and blogs, and offering meaningful discussion will often provide valuable traffic and gives you direct control over your link text. As you (or an agent acting on your behalf) are the people writing the responses, you can write what you like, and use the linkback text most useful to your site.

Remember to offer a comment with substance – if you don’t, people will consider you to be either uneducated, or worse, just won’t visit your site.

Some sites have ‘no follow’ instructions on their blogs, meaning that you’re entirely reliant on commenters that visit your site – these are less valuable in terms for pure SEO, but are more valuable for organic and posted links.

Exchanging links

Link exchanges are often the most difficult of projects to arrange – you have to find people to link to, you have to email around, and you have to find a place to put the links you’ve agreed to display in exchange for them displaying yours.

In many cases, link exchanges are now becoming meaningless. Search engines are more interested in ‘in context’ links – a great way to get them is to have articles written about the content on site that you want to link to and ask them to do the same.
